Connecting countries and boosting trade
Trans-European Corridor Vc
In Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) the Bank is investing in the largest infrastructure project to date by lending €180 million to the state of BiH to construct key sections of the Trans-European Corridor Vc. Running 335 kilometres through the centre of the country, the Corridor links BiH to Hungary and Croatia. The construction of this major motorway will encourage trade and attract investors.
Kazakhstan – Kyrgyz Republic road
In Kazakhstan the EBRD is helping this large, landlocked country to connect to its neighbours. A US$ 28.5 million loan has helped to upgrade the regional road between Almaty and Bishkek. The South-West Corridor is yet another key project in which the EBRD is involved. The Bank is providing a US$ 180 million loan to upgrade the 102 kilometre-long road between the Russian border and the city of Aktobe.
Moldova’s new airport
In Moldova, financing from the EBRD and other sources is helping to modernise the country’s international airport, attracting new business and creating jobs. In 2008 the EBRD provided a €25.5 million loan to upgrade the airport’s infrastructure such as the existing runway and taxiways. This support follows the successful repayment of the EBRD’s first loan to Chisinau International in 1998 to improve its terminal.
Our pioneering Trade Facilitation Programme supports trade throughout the EBRD region, working via a network of client banks.
